Responsible sourcing
Our sourcing approach is guided by product suitability, transparency of origin and responsible business conduct. We seek relationships with suppliers that can provide relevant information about their products, sourcing practices and ability to meet agreed requirements. Environmental and social considerations should be assessed alongside quality, availability and commercial performance.
For agricultural commodities, our priorities include understanding origin-related risks and encouraging greater visibility into land use, labour conditions and production practices. Any product-specific sourcing assurance should be supported by evidence relevant to the transaction.
Traceability and documentation
Traceability is a priority in our approach to sourcing and trade. We seek product origin, supplier and shipment information appropriate to each transaction, supported by relevant commercial, quality and transport records. The level of detail available may vary by commodity, origin and supplier.
Clear documentation helps customers understand what is being supplied and provides a basis for investigating discrepancies. Supplier due diligence
Supplier due diligence is a key priority for GFG. Our approach is to seek information proportionate to the product, origin and commercial relationship, including supplier identity, operating capability and relevant quality or sourcing documentation. Where concerns arise, further clarification or supporting evidence may be needed before a sourcing decision is made.
Independent inspection and product integrity
Independent inspection can provide additional verification of agreed shipment requirements. Depending on the product, contract and identified risks, its scope may include quantity, condition, sampling, testing or loading checks. The inspection requirements and any supporting reports should be defined for the specific transaction.
We recognise the value of this verification in supporting product integrity and customer confidence. A shipment inspection relates to its agreed scope; it does not, by itself, certify the environmental or social performance of the wider supply chain.
Reducing avoidable losses
Protecting product quality and reducing avoidable losses are practical sustainability priorities. We encourage appropriate storage, handling, packaging and transport planning to help limit deterioration, contamination and damage throughout the supply chain.
We seek opportunities with our partners to use resources more efficiently and improve logistics where commercially and operationally feasible. Any statements about emissions reductions or environmental performance should be based on a defined methodology and verifiable data.
People and ethical business conduct
Respect for people and ethical business conduct underpin our expectations of commercial partners. We expect suppliers and service providers to respect applicable labour requirements, provide safe working conditions and avoid forced labour, child labour, bribery and corruption.
We encourage partners to raise concerns about product integrity, sourcing practices or business conduct through their GFG commercial contact, so that the issue can be directed to the appropriate person for review.
Continuous improvement and credible communication
Our ambition is to strengthen the information and processes that support responsible trade. Progress depends on collaboration with suppliers, logistics providers, inspection partners and customers, with priorities adapted to the commodities and markets involved.
We aim to communicate clearly and substantiate any specific sustainability claim. Certifications, assessments, targets and performance results should be described only where their scope and supporting evidence can be verified.
